The event is a day at the beach where autistic children and their families are be exposed to the experience of surfing. Many autistic children often suffer from sensory overload- everyday sensations are overwhelming to them. For some, water is a very soothing medium. The goal of the group is to offer a new experience that may be used as positive therapy.

It was the last day of regular combat operations for U.S. forces in Iraqi cities. The four deaths marked the North Carolina National Guard's largest single combat loss since World War II.
