South of the Border is an internationally-know roadside attraction on Interstate 95 near Dillon, South Carolina, so named because it is just "south of the border" between the U.S. states of South and North Carolina. Intentionally campy and over-the-top, the rest area features restaurants, gas stations, motels, a small amusement park, shopping and fireworks. Its mascot is Pedro, an extremely unpolitically-correct Mexican bandido. It is advertised by hundreds of billboards along surrounding highways that start 175 miles away. Photo by LOGAN MOCK-BUNTING
