  • B. Mock spearfishes in the Gulf Stream off of Ocracoke Island. Located at the southernmost tip of North Carolina's Outer Banks, Ocracoke Island is part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Freediving is a type of breath-hold diving in which divers descend for the length of a breath with out any SCUBA tanks or breathing apparatus. Many believe spearfishing to be the most sustainable form of fishing, since there is no blind-casting of lines or nets. The hunter sees exactly what they are fishing for, and thus there is no wasteful by-catch of unwanted creatures.
